GOODWILL’S PEKIN STORE BECOMES ITS LARGEST WITH SPACE FOR CLASSROOMS

March 31, 2010 – Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois will hold the grand opening of its new Pekin location on Saturday, April 10th. The move to this new location makes Goodwill’s Pekin store its largest.
Boasting over 24,000 square feet, the store also includes two classrooms. These classrooms will be used as the setting for free computer and job readiness classes. “Using a portion of the store for classrooms will allow us to conduct free classes for people in and around the Pekin area”, says Patty Fuchs, Goodwill President and CEO.

Director of Retail Operations Dyrke Maricle says, “Not only does the store contain more merchandise and more selection, it also has a drive through donation drop off. We have found that donors really appreciate the ability to donate items without even leaving their vehicle.”

The Pekin Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 9th at 11:00 a.m. Photo opportunities and interviews will be available at that time. The store is located at 3245 Court Street in Pekin. Business hours are Monday – Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois provides job training, career and vocational services to individuals who face barriers to employment. Revenues from the sale of gently-used items support the Vocational Services programs of Goodwill.
