Pekin Insurance Offers Free On-Site Health Services

Pekin Insurance is helping its employees make their health a top priority.  Whether it’s the sniffles during flu season or a minor injury, oftentimes seeing a health care professional is the right thing to do to avoid more serious illnesses down the road. But taking time away from work and the added expense of copays and deductibles can discourage some from seeking immediate care.

In a joint venture with UnityPoint Health, Pekin Insurance leaders Kimberly Remmert, PHR, AINS, Vice President - Human Resources, and Amy Darling, FLMI, FLHC, ACS, ARA, Director of Life Claims, developed an innovative program to make it easier for employees to stay healthy by offering an on-site Health Room at their Home Office in Pekin, Illinois. The Health Room is staffed by a licensed medical professional who can provide initial assessments, take vitals, and guide employees as to the best course of action for additional medical treatment, if necessary.

Thanks to the partnership of these two local companies, the Health Room is offered to Pekin Insurance employees at absolutely no charge. In fact, employees do not need to be enrolled in the company’s health insurance program to utilize the services offered by the Health Room. 

On March 1, 2018, representatives from UnityPoint Health, the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Pekin and Pekin Insurance were on hand to officially open the new service to employees. However, Pekin Insurance employees have already been taking advantage of the Health Room since January, with more than 76 consultations during that month alone.

Remmert stated, “The Health Room has been much more popular than we anticipated. This is a unique opportunity for our employees, whether they are on our health insurance plan or not, to get quick, confidential, and cost-free medical advice, which ultimately creates a healthier, happier, and more productive workforce. Employees have really embraced the idea of this on-site benefit, and we’re thrilled that so many have already taken advantage of this service.”

As on-site health services gain in popularity, many companies are seeing indirect benefits by encouraging employees to be more conscious of their preventative health and wellness needs. This leads to fewer doctors’ office and emergency room visits, fewer absences from work, and generally healthier employees, which lowers health insurance costs overall. Many employees cite on-site health facilities as one of the most popular benefits a company can offer.

The on-site Health Room at Pekin Insurance is available to all employees Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and is currently staffed by a registered nurse from UnityPoint Health. The company plans to continue to offer ways for its employees to stay healthy and is looking into other unique and innovative ways to promote a healthier workforce.
