Illinois Central College Offers Non-credit Class in Conversational Chinese


Illinois Central College Corporate and Community Education Dept. will offer a non-credit class for the public in Conversational Chinese Language and Culture with a focus on Mandarin Chinese and the relationship between language and culture. The program will be offered on Tuesday evenings, April 10 through May 15, from 6 to 7:30 pm in Hickory Hall on the ICC Peoria Campus, located at 5407 N. University St., Peoria.
The series will be taught by Yanling (Linda) Huang, the ICC Chinese Language Institute’s Chinese visiting scholar from Xiamen Huaxia University in Xiamen, China. Huang has taught logistics related courses at Xiamen Huaxia University since 2008 and had professional business experience with Xiamen Youmingxing Trading Co., Ltd.; Pacific International Line; and Xiamen Yuli Container Service Co., Ltd., prior to teaching.  She has also taught elective English courses at Xiamen Huaxia University since 2016. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree.  
While in the United States, Huang will share language and culture with the college and community to inspire Americans to travel and study overseas and be better prepared to engage with businesses, governments, and organizations abroad. She will also be providing cultural programs for the college and community through the ICC Chinese Language Institute throughout her five-month stay.
