New award honoring tri-county high school students’ dedication to building a safe community
now accepting submissions

The Center for Prevention of Abuse is now accepting nominations for its “Outstanding Youth Leader in Violence Prevention” Award to honor high school students in the tri-county area who are dedicated to building a safe school and safe community. Submissions are accepted now through March 31, 2018.

Students who attend any high school in Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford County and who have received some form of The Center for Prevention of Abuse’s Violence Prevention Education programming during their schooling are eligible to receive the award. The students must show significant commitment to creating a safe environment at home, at school, in their place of work, or out in the community.

“We are excited to reveal our new award honoring the incredible students in the counties we serve,” said Carol Merna, Executive Director at The Center for Prevention of Abuse. “We educate nearly 30,000 tri-county students annually through our Prevention Education programming and we want to create a space for these students to shine and be recognized. Maybe it’s a student dedicated to peaceful conflict resolutions, maybe they speak out against bullying, or maybe they create a positive and uplifting after-school organization. We want to celebrate their successes and their efforts to build a safe space for everyone.”

Anyone has the ability to nominate a student by completing the nomination form here, or by downloading on The Center for Prevention of Abuse’s website under the Prevention Education tab. Submit the completed form with required video essay or written essay to PreventEd@centerforpreventionofabuse.org. Nominations are open through March 31, 2018 and one winner will be chosen from each county during the first week of May. There is no cost to the submission and creativity is highly encouraged.
