Employment Numbers Improve – According to information from the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the unemployment rate in Pekin fell from 11.0% in September to 10.8% in October.  In October of 2009, the unemployment rate in Pekin was 14.3%.  While those percentages sound good, the actual number of persons employed in Pekin was 255 less than a year ago.

Consumer Price Index – The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.2 percent in October on a seasonally adjusted basis.  Over the past twelve months, the all items index increased 1.2 percent before seasonal adjustments.
