YWCA Women's Recognition Day

The YWCA of Pekin is accepting nominations for outstanding leadership and achievement awards to be presented at its 30th Annual Women’s Recognition Day luncheon on Thursday, May 12th at the Pekin Country Club.  Nominations to honor outstanding accomplishments and contributions of women in their careers and community service are being accepted at the YWCA office through April 12.  Luncheon reservations are open to the public and must be made by Thursday, May 5th.  Nomination and luncheon reservation forms are available at the YWCA during regular business hours or on the YWCA website at:  http://www.ywca.org/site/pp.asp?c=agLJKXNLE&b=488381  For more information, call the YWCA at 347-2104.

Local High School to Win a SMART Board in 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
