Free Colorectal Screening Scheduled for March 18
(March 10, 2010) - In recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Pekin Hospital will partner with Mid Illini Surgical Associates, and the American Cancer Society for a Colorectal Screening on Thursday, March 18.
This free community-wide screening event will be held in Pekin Hospital’s Lobby from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For those with limited time, a drive-through lane will be provided in front of the main entrance during the screening hours.
Attendees will receive a free home screening test kit. The home test kit checks for blood in the stool and is completed in the privacy of your home. The kit is then returned to Pekin Hospital for a free analysis. Each person and their physician will be notified of the test results.
Representatives of Mid Illini Surgical Associates, Pekin Hospital, and the Cancer Society will be on hand to provide and answer questions.
Colorectal Cancer is the second most deadly cancer found in men and women in this country. Often there are no symptoms in the early stages. The American Cancer Society recommends men and women receive a colon cancer screening beginning at age 50 at least once a year.
