Goodwill Announces 2010 Board of Directors and Officers

January 21, 2010 – Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is proud to announce its 2010 Board of Directors and Officers.

Board Officers are Pam Johnson, chairman; Doug Orear, vice chairman; Becky Brown, secretary and Ryan Beasley, treasurer. Board members include Major DK Carpenter; Barbara Duryea; Dennis Higdon; Tucker Kennedy; Terry Lake; Dr Robert Phillips and
Tom Schlink.

Goodwill’s board members come from many businesses within our community and each possesses great skill in their area of expertise. According to Goodwill President and CEO Patty Fuchs, “Our board members are invaluable to our mission.” “They provide counsel and advocacy while always keeping our core values in the forefront.”

Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois provides job training, career and vocational services to individuals who face barriers to employment. Revenues from the sale of gently-used items support the Vocational Services programs of Goodwill. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
