Illinois Central College Guest Artists Series Presents the Starlets with A Tribute To Girl Groups Of The Fabulous ‘50s And Sensational ‘60s on March 16

Vintage songs harkening back to the days of bobby socks and poodle skirts will fill the air at the Illinois Central College Performing Arts Center when the 2018-2019 ICC Guest Artists Series presents The Starlets and their show, A Tribute to Girl Groups of the Fabulous ‘50s & Sensational ‘60s on March 16 at 7:30 pm in the ICC Performing Arts Center, located on the East Peoria Campus.
The Starlets are the headlining act from Sunset Singers, a music entertainment company in Los Angeles specializing in vintage entertainment. Inspired by iconic girl groups including The Ronettes, The Angels, The Shirelles and The Supremes, The Starlets take audiences on a musical journey through the 50s and 60s.
“I have always loved oldies,” said Amy McAndrew, co-owner of Sunset Singers and a performer for The Starlets. “My parents played them a lot. I felt like it was the kind of music that spans all generations; we would always put it on around our house and listen to it, and it was a lot of fun. I actually started my company, Sunset Singers, with my husband and business partner, and we do vintage music.”
While the show includes music more than 50 years old, McAndrew said she feels the songs never go out of style due to their appeal to all ages.
“When we have our shows, we have such a wide range of people in our audience,” she said. “We have kids that are up there dancing and just loving the music--maybe they’ve never heard it before. And then we have people in our audience who know every single word to every single song. So I think it spans all generations. It’s the kind of music that brings everybody together.”
The Central Illinois Memorial Kidney Funds will be highlighted as the ICC Guest Artists Series Community Partner for this show. The Community Partner program features a different community or non-profit organization at each ICC Guest Artists Series event. Those attending the show who donate to the community partner at the event will be entered in a drawing for tickets to a future ICC Guest Artists Series event.
Tickets cost $26 for the general public and $16 for students.
The ICC Guest Artists Series is presented by the Arts at ICC, which has a rich history of enhancing the arts community and expanding education beyond the classroom. Arts at ICC presents more than 500 exhibits, performances, lectures, rehearsals, meetings, master classes, clinics, seminars, receptions, orientations, forums, auditions and tournaments annually.
