The Center for Prevention of Abuse hosts Sexual Assault Awareness Community Walk
The Center
for Prevention of Abuse marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a community
walk, Wednesday, April 12. Members of the community are welcome to gather at
The Center, located at 720 Joan Court in Peoria, just before noon to walk in an
effort to raise awareness of sexual assault/abuse. Several local groups will be
participating in the walk including the Bradley University Police Department
and local members of the military.

1 out of every 6 American women has
been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime
•
1 out of every 3 American men have
experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime
•
Every 98 seconds an American is
sexually assaulted
•
In seven out of 10 cases of rape,
the victim knew the person who sexually assaulted them
There will
be a brief press conference to kick off the walk at noon. There are two course
options, a half-mile walk and a two-mile walk. Participants are encouraged to
wear teal, the color for Sexual Assault Awareness. Representatives from The
Center for Prevention of Abuse will be available for interviews before and
after the event.
