UnityPoint Health - Pekin East Opens

Well over 100 chamber members and guests were on hand for the official grand opening of UnityPoint Health - Pekin East on January 18. The new state of the art building is located on the corner of Veterans Drive and Griffin Avenue.

The new facility will bring together primary care providers and pediatricians under one roof. By having them all in one building, along with x-ray and lab services, accessing care will be more convenient. The third floor will be home to the UnityPoint Health specialty practices, including an Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist, among others.

UnityPoint Health - Pekin East is a 52,000 square foot building with three stories. Each floor includes 26 exam rooms and two procedure rooms. In addition, the first floor will include a community area providing space for health education classes, physician presentations and meeting space.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
