All services, including applying for unemployment insurance benefits, certifying for those benefits, and switching payment method to direct deposit, are available on the IDES website. Using the website allows customers to conduct business when it is convenient for them because services are available outside standard office hours. More than 60 percent of IDES claimants use the internet to apply for unemployment insurance benefits and receive those benefits through direct deposit.
Customers are encouraged to enroll in the direct deposit program rather than receive benefits on a debit card because they already know the rules governing their existing bank accounts. There are no fees associated with the debit card when used inside more than 5,000 Illinois banks that accept the branded debit card. Free transactions are available at point-of-service counters. Customers can request cash back after qualifying purchases. Direct deposit is a simple, smart and secure way to receive benefits.
At the IDES, more than 500 employees - approximately 25 percent of the workforce - are Veterans. Additionally, nearly 60 IDES associates are Veterans specifically assigned to help Veterans return to work. In 2011, the IDES provided re-employment services to more than 45,000 Veterans.
