Pekin Employment Security Office Relocates to Peoria
No Service or Staff Cuts; Office Near Public Transportation
The Pekin service center on South Second Street will relocate 11 miles to Peoria at 406 Elm Street, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) recently announced. The relocation will occur after business has concluded on Thursday, August 2nd.
Claimants can obtain services at any center and are not assigned to a specific location. Office hours for all service centers are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
All services, including applying for unemployment insurance benefits, certifying for those benefits, and switching payment method to direct deposit, are available on the IDES website. Using the website allows customers to conduct business when it is convenient for them because services are available outside standard office hours. More than 60 percent of IDES claimants use the internet to apply for unemployment insurance benefits and receive those benefits through direct deposit.
Customers are encouraged to enroll in the direct deposit program rather than receive benefits on a debit card because they already know the rules governing their existing bank accounts. There are no fees associated with the debit card when used inside more than 5,000 Illinois banks that accept the branded debit card. Free transactions are available at point-of-service counters. Customers can request cash back after qualifying purchases. Direct deposit is a simple, smart and secure way to receive benefits.
At the IDES, more than 500 employees - approximately 25 percent of the workforce - are Veterans. Additionally, nearly 60 IDES associates are Veterans specifically assigned to help Veterans return to work. In 2011, the IDES provided re-employment services to more than 45,000 Veterans.
Illinoisjoblink.com is an IDES employment website that links help-wanted ads and resumes. This no-cost, on-line career resource allows individuals to create multiple resumes that emphasize different talents and allows businesses to search for specific skills. The keyword matching technology increases the likelihood of a successful new hire. Illinois JobLink emphasizes Illinois jobs, scrapes other commercial job boards, and compares favorably to private efforts that cost hundreds of dollars for a single help-wanted advertisement.
