Methodist Offers Free Community Health Screenings

The following are times and locations for community health screenings offered by Methodist Medical Center for the month of August 2009. Free cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and lung functions are offered at all screening sites.

August 3-Clubs at River City-Peoria- 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
August 8-Creve Coeur Community Center-7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
August 10-Eastside Center-East Peoria-7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
August 11-World Gym on Universigty-Peoria-8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
August 14-Naturally Yours-Peoria-10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
August 17-Maple Lawn-Eureka-8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
August 18-Methodist Medical Group at Princeville-8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
August 20-Methodist Medical Group at East Peoria-8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Prostate screening (PSA) is also available at a reduced cost of $25.
August 25-Health Fair-Riverplex-9 a.m. to noon
August 26-Fitness America-East Peoria-9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
August 27-Apples Bakery-Peoria-8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
August 28- Schnucks Supermarket-Peoria-8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
August 31-Methodist at Canton-8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE. Crescent Ave in Peoria. The event is free but space is limited. Reserve your seat by calling 671-5121.
