American Wind Symphony Orchestra Concert at Pekin's Riverfront Park
Join us at the Pekin Riverfront Park as the City of Pekin presents the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. This FREE outdoor concert takes place on Friday evening, August 14th, beginning at 7:30 pm. Food vendors and concessions will be available. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and watch as this amazing vessel transforms into a floating symphony on the Illinois River. Over 5,000 people attended the last concert performed in Pekin in September, 2000.
For over 52 years, the Orchestra has been making musical headlines along the waterways of the Unites States, the Caribbean, and Northern Europe. Musicians from throughout the US and other parts of the world will be performing along with local musicians. Founded in 1957 by Maestro Robert Austin Boudreau, the Symphony has become an institution known for bringing its music to the masses via its floating art center and stage.
The arrival of Point Counterpoint II at the riverfront always causes a stir. This silver vessel is 195 feet long and 38 feet wide, and contains a central stage, art galleries and a small theatre. It was designed by the renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, subject of the recently released documentary film, My Architect, which was nominated for an Academy Award.
