Yesterday's Says Goodbye to the Past: Welcoming the Next Generation of Schramm | Pekin Restaurant Week 2023

Yesterday's Says Goodbye to the Past:
Welcoming the Next Generation of Schramm

Pekin, IL- Yesterday’s Bar & Grill isn’t the same these days, and Pekin is here for it! Pekin Restaurant Week couldn’t be a better reason to see (and taste) the changes. Family owned for nearly three decades, YBG has been taken on by the next generation of Schramm: Chef JoElle.

Chef JoElle has returned to her hometown to take up the torch of family business. With a bachelor’s degree in restaurant management and culinary arts, she had pursued upscale dining scenes of the Windy City for several years, returning to help family as the world faced the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I returned when the world shut down,” says Chef JoElle, now owner of Yesterday’s Bar and Grille. “Being close to help my family was just the right decision.”

Chef JoElle’s innovative restaurant management mindset helped to keep revenue incoming, pivoting the business to offer oven ready meals of everything from whole chickens to gourmet mac and cheese! And, since taking ownership of YBG in January 2021 she has transformed the little hometown bar into a progressive dining establishment.

Followers of her social media will see her “taste of international flavor” five-course dining events, filling a little represented niche of fine dining in Pekin. The special dining events have become a regularly sold-out experience, offering French cuisine, a taste of the Mediterranean, Greek fare and more.

“It started as just a creative outlet for me. I missed the challenge of the more elaborate dinners I was used to preparing in Chicago,” says Chef JoElle.

YBG also offers a vast line up of specialty cocktails, including the current house favorites: tipsy cocoa and whiskey sour made with in-house whipped merengue and brandied cherry. This week offers an incredible dining experience with Pekin Restaurant Week pre-fixe special menus featuring grilled salmon, bucatini, butternut squash risotto and more!

Chef JoElle invites the Pekin area to see the on-going interior renovations as Yesterday’s says goodbye to the past; replacing aged carpentry, opening the dining floor to a more open floor plan, as well as transforming lighting and removing the ironically awkward brass bar railing. More interior updates will be seen throughout the year as YBG prepares to celebrate 30 years in 2024!
