The Pekin Public Library’s Digital Media and Training Lab is open to the public!  The purpose of the lab is for small business owners or students to create publicity and marketing materials and/or artwork for their business or project as well as to provide a space and PCs for training their staff.
    The lab offers a new Mac and PC with Adobe Creative Suite.   Adobe Creative Suite (CS) is a software suite of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications developed by Adobe Systems. Each edition consists several Adobe applications, e.g., Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, Premiere Pro or After Effects. Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator are the industry standard applications for many graphic design positions.
    In addition to the extensive software, the lab also offers a large poster-sized printer, as well as a 3-D printer.  Prices for printing are:  17 x 22 gloss  $10.00 per sheet; 17 x 22 matte $8.50 per sheet; 11 x 14 premium luster $8.50 per sheet. The lab also includes six PCs for private training and film/VHS to digital conversion equipment.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
