Spring Fling Community Fundraiser

Every year the Herbal Springs Wellness Center in Pekin hosts its annual Spring Fling Community Fundraiser, a vendor based community fundraiser open to the public. Each year they choose a non-for-profit community organization as beneficiary for the fundraising efforts.  This year the Spring Fling has chosen the Illinois River Valley Special Recreation Association. IRVSRA is in the process of renovating 2000 sq. ft. of space in the old Pekin Park Mineral Springs Pool House to host many of its day camps, programs, and activities for the Tazewell County area special needs community.  The Spring Fling event will take place at the Miller Senior Citizens Center at 551 S. 14th St. in Pekin and will run from 11am-3pm.  It is an open house style event, so stop by any time.  Entry is free and there will be raffle prizes, silent auctions, lunch, snacks, an IRVSRA cheer team performance at noon, as well as several area vendors from the likes of Pampered Chef, Lula Roe, Pink Zebra, Thirty-One and more!  For more about IRVSRA please visit www.irvsra.org.  If you have any questions about attending, donating to the event, or renting a booth, please contact Event Coordinator, Michelle Johnson, at roxego2@yahoo.com or (309) 267-8883.

Local High School to Win a SMART Board in 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters.
