Illinois Central College Offers Health Occupations Career Camp for Kids This Summer
Kids going into fourth through sixth grades are invited to join Illinois
Central College Health Career professionals this summer for an exciting week
full of hands on activities, discovering numerous career opportunities
available within the healthcare field.
“Health Occupations Career Camp – Be a Lifesaver!” is available June 25-29 from
8 am to 3:45 pm on the ICC Peoria Campus, located at 5407 N. University St. in
Peoria. Participants will explore a variety of aspects of the health care field,
from an ambulance and physical therapy, to x-rays. Kids will use their
senses to feel what it is like to scrub for surgery and wear the surgical mask
and gown, see microorganisms under a microscope, feel for pulses and know what
to do to stop bleeding, smell smoke and know what to do in case of a
fire. Additionally, participants will discover how all the health careers
intersect in an emergency with police, fire, paramedics, laboratory staff,
doctors, nurses and others are all working together to save lives in a
simulated hospital. On Friday of the camp week, kids will use their new
skills to play a role in a mock emergency room, where they will respond to a
mock mini disaster or accident.
Cost for camp is $169 and includes a CPR/First Aid Certificate, Anatomy
Quick Guide, a morning field trip on Friday and five days of
lunches. Parents are invited to attend the mock emergency room exercise on
Friday afternoon. Optional aftercare is available from 3:45 to 5 pm for an
additional cost of $49.
