PEKIN FIRE FEST, A FAMILY FUN EVENT TO CELEBRATE FIRE SERVICE HERITAGE
Pekin Fire Department in partnership with Pekin Main Street to host the annual Pekin Fire Fest event on Saturday May 15th as the Pekin Fire Department celebrates 150 years of service. The event will kick off with a parade at 11:00am from James Field (9th & Broadway) and make its way down Broadway and Court ending at the Courthouse Square followed by Fire Fest activities surrounding the Courthouse Square and Capitol Street towards City Hall.
Fire Trucks, lights and sirens will fill the streets as area fire departments, firefighters, retirees, fire enthusiasts,
groups and businesses have been invited to participate in the parade and showcase their fire trucks, equipment and services with Pekin Fire Department and retirees along the streets of downtown Pekin around the Courthouse Square. Pekin Fire Department will demonstrate safety rescues, kids can enjoy a bouncy house & slide, test their skills at a fire slide pole and fire hose spray, practice escape plan in the Safe Escape House and see “Sparky” the fire dog. A “Stop Drop and Roll” color page will be available for kids to color and enter for prizes, color pages will be at the event. Kids and families will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with a Pekin Fire Truck & firefighters and enjoy live music and interaction with firefighters. Pekin Main Street will be selling pork chop sandwiches, hot dogs, chips and soda. There is free admission and free parking for this event.
The Pekin Fire Fest parade on Saturday May 15th at 11:00 a.m. that begins at James Field, onto Broadway and down Court Street through downtown ending on Capitol around the Courthouse Square. Antique fire trucks, new model trucks, groups and fire units from surrounding communities will participate in the parade. The parade will also be honoring Armed Forces Day with a special tribute to the active and veterans.
Immediately following the parade, a ceremony to honor fallen firefighters and Veterans will take place around
the Tazewell County Courthouse Memorial Garden. This ceremony will celebrate fire service with the Pekin Fire Department leading a bell ringing ceremony and Mayor Rusty Dunn to honor our Veterans on Armed Forces Day.
Pekin Fire Department arrange several school assemblies to educate the youth of Pekin on fire safety, present the Fire Fest event, introduce “Sparky” the Fire Dog and send home a color page as a remember to “Stop Drop & Roll” This same color will be available at the event and will receive an entry for prizes at the Fire Fest event. Celebrate Fire Heritage and 150 years of Pekin Fire Department service at Pekin Fire Fest and also see what the businesses of downtown Pekin have to offer!
