Derby Days May 6th - 9th

The Southside Business Association is proud to again sponsor Derby Days at the Southside Park near 10th and Koch streets.  This year's event runs from May 6th through the 9th. 
  • Thursday, May 6th - carnival opens (bracelet night from 6-10pm)
  • Friday, May 7th - carnival and vendors
  • Saturday, May 8th - SBA salutes the Veterans and their families.  The event starts at 11:00am with opening ceremony, color guards, prayer, music, speakers and free carnival rides for veterans and their families.  The SBA's famous pork chop booth will serve from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.  Entertainment will be on stage starting at 1:30, with Killinois playing from 6:00-8:00pm.  Bring your lawn chairs and the entire family and help honor the Veterans.  (May is National Veterans Appreciation Month.)
  • Sunday, May 9th - Pork chop booth opens at 12:00 and the carnival will have another bracelet special from 1:00-5:00pm.  Christian music on the stage starting at 1:00pm.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
