Nominate a Hero of the Day!

The Peoria Chiefs and the Uftring Auto Group have partnered to present the Hero of the Day promotion to salute active and retired military at 20 weekend Chiefs games during the rest of the 2011 season. Fans are encouraged to nominate their local military heroes for recognition at a Chiefs game this summer.

The Hero of the Day promotion presented by the Uftring Auto Group will kick off on Friday, June 10 and then occur on every home Friday, Saturday and Sunday game that remains on the schedule through the end of the regular season. The Chiefs and Uftring Auto Group will partner with Patti Smith of The Central Illinois Proud Family of Marines to select the winners. To nominate your hero, send an email to Peoriahero@gmail.com and include whom you are nominating and why you think they deserve to be recognized as the Hero of the Day. A nomination can be for any Active or Veteran member of any branch of the U.S. Military.

The Hero of the Day will receive 10 tickets to a Chiefs game, $100 in food vouchers for the concession stands or specialty food carts, a Chiefs hat and on-field recognition during the game. The Hero of the Day will also receive a plaque commemorating the event and their service.

The dates of the Hero of the Day Promotion are: Friday June 10, Saturday June 11, Sunday June 12, Friday June 24, Saturday June 25, Sunday June 26, Sunday July 3, Friday July 8, Friday July 15, Saturday July 16, Sunday July 17, Friday August 5, Saturday August 6, Sunday August 7, Saturday August 13, Sunday August 14, Friday August 19, Friday August 26, Saturday September 3 and Sunday September 4.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
