Savant Certified for Fiduciary Excellence for 12 Consecutive Years

Savant Capital Management, a nationally-recognized fee-only wealth management firm headquartered in Rockford, IL, with locations in Chicago, Downers Grove, Freeport, Hoffman Estates, Naperville, Peoria, St. Charles, Sterling, and Wilmette, IL; Santa Fe, NM; Madison and Park Falls, WI; and McLean, VA, announced today  that CEFEX, the Centre for Fiduciary Excellence, LLC, has renewed the firm’s certification to the standard described in the handbook “Prudent Practices for Investment Advisors.” This is the twelfth consecutive year of certification for Savant, and it was among the first Investment Advisors to successfully complete the independent certification process.

The CEFEX standard describes how an Investment Advisor assumes the responsibility for managing a client’s overall investment management process, which includes the selection, monitoring, and de-selection of investment managers, as well as developing processes to implement investment strategies and fiduciary practices on an ongoing basis.

Savant has become certified in the following areas through CEFEX:

  • Investment Steward: A person or organization which has the legal responsibility for managing investment decisions (trustees and investment committee members). View certificate here.
  • Investment Advisor: A professional who is responsible for managing comprehensive and continuous investment decisions (including wealth managers, financial advisors, trust officers, financial consultants, investment consultants, and financial planners). View certificate here.
  • ASPPA Administration Services: A Retirement Plan Service Provider’s conformity to all Practices and criteria within the ASPPA Standard of Practice. It implies that the firm can demonstrate adherence to the industry's best practices and is positioned to serve fiduciaries such as Investment Advisors, Investment Managers and Investment Stewards (e.g. Plan Sponsors). View certificate here.

“Savant proudly adheres to a standard representing the best practices in our industry and always putting our clients first,” said Brent Brodeski, CEO of Savant. “Having a prestigious organization such as CEFEX certify our firm’s services further validates our ongoing commitment to living our mission of empowering individuals, families, and institutions to achieve their life and financial goals.”

“Maintaining certification requires a continued adherence to the industry’s best practices. This is verified through our annual renewal assessment,” added Carlos Panksep, Managing Director of the Centre of Fiduciary Excellence.

Savant is certified for investment advisory services, including the role of 3(38) investment manager and non-discretionary 3(21) investment advisor for Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) plans, 403(b)/church exempt, personal trusts, and high net worth individuals. Savant is registered at cefex.org/advisor, where the firm’s certificate can also be viewed.

The standard is substantiated by legislation, case law, and regulatory opinion letters from the ERISA, the Investment Advisor’s Act of 1940, Uniform Prudent Investor Act (UPIA), Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA), and the Uniform Management of Public Employee Retirement Systems Act (MPERS) in the U.S.

Scam Alert!

BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU® NEWS RELEASE

What’s in a domain name, really? For small businesses, it’s the best way for customers to find them and for vendors to network with them. But what if a suspicious-looking email appears in your inbox threatening to take over your company’s domain name because it conflicts with a trademark, or the sender has filed a registration ahead of you for the same name? BBB advises to stop and think before sending a response.

The practice is called domain squatting or cybersquatting, and it’s defined as the act of registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name in bad faith. It’s been on the uptick for the last decade, as businesses started creating websites and registering their names associated with them.

·     Protect your company’s domain by doing a domain name search for your company’s website and checking the status of the domain registration.

·     Avoid selecting any of the links in the email to protect your computer and any other devices connected to the network.

·     Research your rights, and learn more about anticybersquatting by visiting ICANN. Another resource available is the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), a less costly way to pursue cyber squatters and an optional way of consulting professional domain name strategists.

BBB Balance

If there is one piece of advice I could offer to anyone, it would be to always show gratitude.

You’ve seen the articles out there. The ones that talk about people don’t leave their jobs, they leave their managers. The articles about how to be a better co-worker, manager, leader, etc. To me, it comes down to communication and gratitude. Saying ‘Thank you’ regularly- with meaning of course- or other recognition is a foundation of trust in your business. You need to show your team that you see the work and effort being done and recognize it as valuable. The return on this investment is ten fold and yet not investing the time and effort into saying thank you could cost you dearly. People take notice when you don’t show gratitude and it begins to build some resentment. It’s simple, “Thank you for communicating that change to the team.” “Thanks for making sure I saw that message.” “Thanks for being a team player today.” As I have spoken with college students this year, I’ve asked them “What kind of environment do you want to work in? What kind of benefits are you looking for?” They offered different variations, but the bottom line was 1. They want to be recognized and 2. They want to be appreciated.

Start with gratitude. Is simple but powerful.

One way you can show recognition and gratitude to someone on your team as a BBB Accredited Business, is to nominate them for the Better Business Bureau’s Service Award. This award is exclusive to you and we recognize your hard working member on your behalf at our Torch Award event (December 11 this year) Here is a link to submit your nomination and here is a link to get your tickets.

Thank you for making the effort to be better each day. Thank you for never settling for mediocre. Thank you for striving towards excellence in your business. All of these characteristics build trust with your employees and your customers. Keep going.

I hope to see you on December 11.

Sincerely,

Jessica
President/CEO

Big Table Follow Up

Organic activities are already flowing out of the recent Big Table GP event.  Here is an opportunity for anyone who was in attendance at the first session of the Big Table to take an action step and be part of the solution to many of the concerns voiced in the morning session.

Junior Achievement of Central Illinois is hosting an Imagine the Future breakfast on November 20th  - here’s why:

Imagine the future….

  • What if we leaned-in on teaching students how to budget and manage money starting as early as kindergarten?
  • What if students were able to start exploring careers in elementary school with hands-on experiences?
  • What if every student was giving the opportunity to learn using the five C’s?
    • Creativity
    • Critical thinking
    • Collaboration
    • Communication
    • Computational thinking
  • What if student’s learned through real people from different occupation’s why essential skills are so important?
  • What if we could help a child go from I can’t to I can?

We are turning these aspirations into reality with every student that we are able to impact through Junior Achievement’s programs delivered by real people!
