Road Construction Ahead!

  Court Street Update The City of Pekin took over Jurisdiction of Court Street from IDOT in 2019. Staff and a consultant engineering firm, Hanson Professional Services, have been working on plans to improve the corridor. The Court Street Rehabilitation Project has been split into three sections for ease of construction and to minimize disruption to the public. Section One: Veterans Drive to Hilltop Drive Completed in 2021 Section Two: Hilltop Drive to Stadium Drive Scheduled and budgeted to begin in 2023. We have run into delays with land acquisition from property owners along the corridor, but we are still hoping to start late this year. This section will be a two construction season project. Unfortunately, it will get worse before it gets better.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May   8 , 2023 CONTACT:   Paul Wappel  217 . 685 . 0 0 82   Kim Hoskins  3 09 .3 70 .17 43      Pekin intersection work begins May 9   Illinois 9 and 14th Street to get traffic signals     PEKIN   –   The Illinois Department of Transportation announce d that the intersection of Illinois 9/VFW Road and 14th Street in Pekin will be converted from a two- way stop to a signal -controlled intersection beginning May 9.   The intersection is reduced to one lane in each direction and will fully reopen after installation of traffic sign als and pavement striping.   Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain  from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.   O

  Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce Hosts 75 th Annual Honor America Celebration   THE PEKIN AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL HOST THE 4 TH OF JULY HONOR AMERICA CELEBRATION FIREWORK S DISPLAY AT PEKIN MEMORIAL STADIUM ON JULY 4, 2023.     Pekin, IL- The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the continuation of the 4 th of July “Honor America Celebration” fireworks display held at Pekin Memorial Stadium this summer. The Honor America Celebration is wholly funded by members of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Pekin business community.      The Honor America Celebration will be held at Pekin Community High School’s 10,000 seat , handicapped-accessible stadium . Football field seating will be available, and guests may bring chairs, blankets, wagons, etc . The display begins at nightfall on July 4 th with a rain date the following evening. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Pekin Farmer’s Market in the Miller Center parking lot on select dates in
