Spine Surgery Begins in Hopedale

Nitin Kukkar, M.D. will begin spine surgery at Hopedale Medical Complex on Wednesday, February 20, 2018. Dr. Kukkar joined HMC’s practice during the fall of 2017. Dr. Kukkar specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Kukkar and Hopedale Medical Complex are an excellent pairing because both focus on providing state-of-the-art medical treatment in a relational atmosphere. Growing up in India, Dr. Kukkar experienced firsthand the necessity for rural orthopedic surgeons; Dr. Kukkar’s father suffered a severe knee injury that brought him near death. Due to a lack of orthopedic care near their farm it was nearly two years before Dr. Kukkar’s father could walk unaided by crutches. This shaping experience was part of the reason Dr. Kukkar became an orthopedic surgeon. Similarly, Hopedale Hospital was opened in 1955 when Lawrence J. Rossi, Sr., M.D. wanted to serve local farmers and families with the medical services provided in a bigger city.  HMC carries that legacy and continues to offer modern medical care using innovative technology in a family atmosphere.
Dr. Kukkar’s ultimate goal for his patients is to see function restored following surgery or treatment. He focuses on minimally invasive spinal surgery because by minimizing disruption to the nerves, muscles, and soft tissue surrounding the spine, patients experience improved recovery. Dr. Kukkar utilizes a balanced approach to surgery incorporating education and recovery support. Hopedale Medical Complex is an ideal location because of the comprehensive medical facility, including the Hopedale Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine department which provides physical therapy and recovery services for both inpatient and outpatient services.
To schedule an appointment with Dr. Kukkar call (309) 449-4338, and for more information on the Hopedale Medical Complex visit https://www.hopedalemc.com. In addition to orthopedic surgery, HMC offers general and vascular surgery, primary care, a 25-bed acute care hospital, a state-of-the-art 34,000 sq. ft. Wellness Center, pharmacy, assisted/independent living facility, and skilled nursing home.
