February Puttin' On Pekin Breakfast

The February 9th Puttin' on Pekin breakfast drew a large crowd of 97 chamber members and  guests.  Manda Brown from Perfectly Planned Events presented Dave Osborn (Trouble Free Heating and Cooling) with the early prize and Lloyd Davis (Federal Companies) with the late prize.  Michael Seeman (NRG Energy - Powerton) presented the Spotlight on Business award to Earl Riley and First Pekin Savings Bank.  Debbie Fornoff (Debbie Fornoff Interior Design and Draperies) presented the Blue Ribbon award to Pat Taphorn and Bill Schock representing the Unland Companies in recognition of their remodeling project.  Jeff Brooks (Pekin Public Library) presented Jake Jones with  the Sunshine Award for  Pekin Villas of Holly Brook and Reflections.  Katy Schackelford, the city planner for the City of Pekin, was the program.  She updated the crowd on a few of the City's projects, and then presented the "Best of Pekin" awards. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
