Pekin Library To Host ReferenceUSA Training Session

Central Illinois Business owners are invited to learn how to start, manage and/or grow their business by using the Pekin Public Library's free database, ReferenceUSA, at our free training session on Tuesday, June 27, at 12:00 noon at the Pekin Public Library.

At this session, entrepreneurs and business owners will learn how to use the library's ReferenceUSA database to find the mission-critical information to start, manage, and grow a business. Topics include:
·       Searching for businesses
·       Locating hard-to-find vendors, both locally and nationally
·       Locating subject-matter experts and professional services
·       Finding investors, venture capitalists, and angels
·       Networking with other businesses in your area or industry
·       Developing relationships with related business for cobranding opportunities
·       Understanding community demographics
·       Surveying locations for expansion
·       Conducting competitive analysis
·       Planning delivery routes and service areas
·       Sourcing new employees

Methodist Offers 10th Annual Grief Camp for Kids

Methodist Medical Center is accepting camp registrations for children age 5 to 18 who are working through issues of grief following the death of a loved one. Camp Courageous is a free one-day outing for 65 young people. The Methodist Hospice Program first established the camp in 2000 with a goal of providing a safe arena for kids to share their grief with others and to learn healthy ways of coping with their loss. This year’s camp will be held at Camp Manitoumi in rural Lowpoint on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Buses will leave the Methodist Atrium Building (900 Main Street) at 8:00 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m. The camp agenda will include games, face-painting, crafts, sports, and horseback riding. Central Illinois Ballet, In Residence at Illinois Central College, Presents Four Performances of The Nutcracker

Performance will feature CIB professional dancers and guest dancers from around the country Central Illinois Ballet, in residence at Illinois Central College, presents four performances of the holiday classic The Nutcracker December 15, 16 and 17 in the Illinois Central College Performing Arts Center, located on the East Peoria Campus. This is the fourth consecutive year Central Illinois Ballet has presented this holiday classic. This year’s production boasts a cast of nearly 100 members ranging in age from 3 years old to adult. CIB has its first international dancer this season with Jiwon Ha of South Korea dancing the part of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Additionally, guest artists Adam Kittelberger and Ben Rabe from the Rochester City Ballet in New York will perform in the production. Both performed in past CIB performances.
