The section of Veterans Drive from Towerline Road to 14th Street opened this morning. Veterans Drive is now open from Sheridan Road on the north to Route 29 near the Federal Correctional Institution on the south. Rich Kriesgman, chairman of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee, thanked all those involved and spoke about the history of the project and the work yet to be completed in the next phases. State Senator Dave Koehler, State Representatives Mike Unes and Tim Butler, and Pekin Mayor John McCabe also spoke about the economic impact of the road and recognized the people that have been involved over the years.
