ILLINOIS CENTRAL COLLEGE HOSTS COVER CROP FIELD DAY NOVEMBER 3

Illinois Central College will host its annual Cover Crop Field Day on Thursday, November 3, from 1-3:30 pm, on the East Peoria Campus. The field day will include short presentations and plot tours for area farmers and agricultural businessmen.
Presenters include Gordon Roskamp and Pete Fandel, who are all currently working with cover crop research at various locations in Central Illinois. A representative from Waterborne Environmental also will talk about the tile water testing at ICC in relation to cover crops. Participants will learn about different cover crop species, planting dates, herbicide carryover, and many other topics related to cover crops. Everyone will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding crop cover management in their own operations.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
