Party on the Infield: Alzheimer’s Association Annual Kentucky Derby Party

The Alzheimer’s Association invites area residents for an amazing evening of good, old-fashioned Kentucky Derby fun. The Champagne and Champions: Kentucky Derby Party will be held Saturday, May 4 at WeaverRidge Golf Club, 5100 N. WeaverRidge Blvd., Peoria. Derby-style attire is suggested.

The event will include Derby-style dinner and drinks, live music by JC and the Redemption, a silent auction, games and a few surprises along the way. New this year is the Party on the Infield, a lively, outdoor continuation of the festivities. Learn about the contenders in this year’s race and choose your favorite before the race begins. Pick right, and you could win a prize!

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Race time is 5:15 p.m., and from there the party really begins! Tickets are $75 per person, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association-Central Illinois Chapter to help fund vital community programs and services.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
