2012 Illinois History Symposium

The 2012 Illinois History Symposium will be held April 16-28 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in East Peoria. It promises to be an engaging and stimulating foray into Midwest frontier history, with emphasis on the War of 1812, Native-American history, prairie archaeology, and the historic city of Peoria. All are welcome and we hope you will take this unique opportunity to explore early Illinois history during the 200th commemoration of the War of 1812.

A note to teachers: Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs) will be available to registered teachers. Some scholarships (i.e. registration waivers) are available. For details call the Society office at 217-525-2781.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
