98.5 KISS FM Brings Teen Star Cody Simpson to Area

 98.5 KISS-FM is bringing Atlantic Records teen star Cody Simpson to Peoria for a special performance at Limestone High School, winners of the "KISS-FM Back To School Spirit contest." Cody, often compared to teen sensation Justin Bieber, will perform his single "On My Mind" as well as answer questions from students, and sign autographs for his fans.

Limestone High School won this honor by accumulating the most votes in a two week online contest at www.KISSpeoria.com. All schools in Central Illinois were included in the contest.

Cody Simpson grew up on Australia's Gold Coast and learned from his father to play guitar at age 7. By the time he turned 12, Cody had posted videos of himself performing cover versions of songs by his influences including Justin Timberlake, Jason Mraz and The Jacksons. His YouTube Channel has been viewed more than 41 million times and he has more than 152,000 fans worldwide who subscribe. It was through his YouTube success that Cody got his first record deal and the chance to perform his first single with Flo Rida. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
