Chamber Honors Thirty-Six

The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their 19th annual Business and Community Recognition Luncheon on Thursday, October 20 at the Pekin Country Club.  The chamber’s Member Promotions Committee coordinated the luncheon, which was sponsored by Enviro-Safe Refrigerants, Pekin Insurance, Pekin Trophy House & Engraved Gifts, The Greenhouse Flower Shoppe, Homefield Energy, and Pekin Hospital.  Additional sponsors included Busey Bank, CEFCU, NRG Powerton, Pekin Community Bank, and Peoria Limousine.

Recognition was given to thirty-six area businesses and organizations in several different categories:  new ownership or management; new business or building; additional employees; major retraining effort; new technology or major equipment investment; other business improvements; and, community involvement.

The speaker at the luncheon was Dave Kinzinger, founder, owner, and president of Fun on the Run.  He shared his personal story of how he started Fun on the Run in 1996 and how it continues to grow. 

Special recognition was given to Neighborhood House who has provided services to the community for 120 years.  In 2011, they expanded their Meals on Wheel program to Tazewell County.  This year they opened a Financial Opportunity Center.

Chamber Board President John Franks closed the program by thanking the audience for their support and their recognition of the accomplishments of others.  He noted the importance of small businesses, the backbone and job creators of local economies.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
