Annual Encore and More Concert Planned

(April 9, 2010) – The students of Pekin Community High School Encore Orchestra and Pekin District 108 Concert and Prelude Orchestras will be performing at the Annual Encore & Co. Fundraiser Concert on Tuesday, April 20. The concert will begin at 6:30p.m. in the Patricia Hackler Auditorium, Washington School, Pekin.

The Annual Encore & Co. Concert is a fundraising dessert concert event to enjoy “A Journey Through American Music”. Each orchestra will perform various pieces such as Star Spangled Banner, Kentucky Jam, Music of the Night, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Best of Abba, and many more including a special tribute to Michael Jackson. Tickets are $4 per person through April 16 or $5 per person after April 16 ($5 at the door) and can be purchased from the PCHS Branch Finance Office, District 108 Suzuki Strings Office or an orchestra member. A complimentary dessert is included with each ticket. The concert is open to the public.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
