20th Annual Christmas on Court Returns to Downtown Pekin

Santa, live entertainment, and more coming to Downtown Pekin December 3rd for Christmas on Court

 

Pekin, IL- A quintessential Christmas experience is returning to Downtown Pekin! Christmas on Court will be held Friday, December 3rd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the 300-600 blocks of Court Street.

Santa is returning with free grab bags for children while supplies last. Santa will also be available for photos at the Santa house in front of the Courthouse. Along with Santa, the event will have live entertainment including the anticipated return of a professional ice-sculptor.

Businesses in the downtown area will be open for shopping as well as pop-up market vendors for a diverse holiday shopping experience. Pop-up vendors will be located indoors at 353, 402 and 404 Court Street.

Christmas on Court is hosted by the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the City of Pekin Tourism Committee, Discover Pekin, and Discover Peoria. This family event emphasizes supporting a “shop small” initiative with the Pekin community. #ShopLocal365 is a regional partnership encouraging community members to shop local at the holidays and year-round. With each community in the Greater Peoria region offering unique specialty retailers, the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents and guests from the region to use Christmas on Court as an opportunity to visit and shop Pekin.

“Shop Local 365 is not just a slogan, hashtag or holiday campaign. At the end of the day, it’s a way of life for our residents of Greater Peoria and helps make our communities stronger,” says Amy Whiting-McCoy, Executive Director of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce. “We know that spending our money locally not only supports our friends and neighbors that run the businesses that make our community unique, but also the critical public services that keep us safe and uphold our quality of life.”

Local High School to Win a SMART Board in 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters.
