Fourth Fridays in Pekin

The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce plans to continue to promote Fourth Fridays in Pekin events and opportunities between April and August. Every Fourth Friday, we will highlight an event or opportunity in the Pekin area - this may be a photography class, art displays, or musical entertainment to enjoy.  We might highlight an artist or local business offering artistic opportunities or we may use this time to enhance quality of life in our community in another way. 

Given the current situation with COVID-19, we chose to serve the community this month by hosting a Drive-By Food Drive. This event was quite successful, as we were able to gather two car-loads of non-perishable food and household items. Working with the Tazewell County Health Department Emergency Operation Center, we selected the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry in Pekin as the recipient this month. A heartfelt thank you to the Pekin community for your support of our Drive-By Food Drive. We were blessed with several very generous cash donations.  One donor, the Ladies of the Moose in Pekin went out of their way to meet so that they would be able to support our efforts. 

With the extension of the Stay-at- Home order, we will use the Fourth Fridays in Pekin platform to host a Drive-By Food Drive again on Friday, May 22nd from 8 am until Noon at the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce office (402 Court Street).  We hope that your businesses, family or organizations will support us as well.

Enjoy a Fourth Friday PARTY at Leo's Art Studio Thursday, April 30, 4pm. Join the live stream, or use the video when you have time. You'll just need supplies you already have at home.. acrylic or watercolor paints, a big and small brush, canvas/paper, water cup, paper towels.   Thank you, Terri for the talents you share with our community!

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
