Anderson, Dawson celebrate anniversaries at Hanson


Two employees at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Peoria office recently celebrated service anniversaries with the company.

Robert Anderson, a technician, has worked at Hanson for 20 years. He joined the company in 2000 and has prepared construction plans and study documents for major roadways, bike trails, roundabouts and rail projects throughout the Midwest. He has worked on projects including the reconstruction of Interstate 74, improvements to Washington Street, redevelopment of the Warehouse District, reconstruction of Northmoor Road and the fast-track reconstruction of the intersection at Willow Knolls and Allen roads, all in Peoria; three road-and-rail grade separations in Galesburg; and the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) project study and design in Champaign and Urbana. 

Matthew Dawson, P.E., PTOE, Hanson’s transportation practice lead, celebrated 10 years. He rejoined the company in 2010; he previously worked for the firm from 2000 to 2006. He manages the roadway, traffic, railway and logistics disciplines within the company’s transportation practice. He also serves as the project engineer on a range of transportation projects and provides quality control review of technical documents and plans for projects throughout the country. He has worked on projects including the Interstate 74 reconstruction, Washington Street and Warehouse District redevelopments that encompassed 20 downtown blocks and Northmoor Road reconstruction, all in Peoria; Multimodal Corridor Enhancement project study and design; numerous roadway and bridge replacement projects for the Missouri Department of Transportation; design support for various Class I railroads; and the reconstruction of several sections of the Illinois Tollway system, including portions of interstates 294, 90 and 88. He serves on the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Geometric Design, for which he has helped with peer reviews of research papers and is a frequent member of the Best Paper and Best Graduate Poster committees. He was named the Young Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Central Illinois Section in 2013, a Rising Star in Civil Engineering by Zweig White in 2012, one of InterBusiness Issues’ 40 Leaders Under Forty in 2011 and ASCE’s Outstanding Practitioner Adviser for Zone III in 2001. He is the membership chair for ASCE’s Illinois Valley Branch and is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 2000 and 2010, respectively, from Bradley University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Idaho and Missouri and a certified professional traffic operations engineer.
