ILLINOIS CENTRAL COLLEGE HOSTS HOME EDUCATORS AND HIGH-SCHOOL-AGED STUDENTS FOR INFORMATIONAL SESSION

Illinois Central College is hosting an informational session for home educators and their high-school-aged students on Friday, February 24, from 8:30 am to noon, on the ICC East Peoria Campus. The event is aimed at providing an overview of ICC as well as discussing ways in which ICC can partner with home educators to supplement and/or extend their home school curriculum.
Topics will include information on financial aid and admission, including ICC’s home school admission policies, an overview of student activities and other ways of getting involved on campus, and tours of the Agricultural and Industrial Technologies Building and Art Gallery. Students also will have the chance to fill out surveys at the Career Center to see how their interests align with career options.

The event is free, but space is limited. Reservations are required, as breakfast will be provided. For more information or to make a reservation, contact Mandy Hidden at (309) 694-5228 by Friday, February 17.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
