South Side Bank celebrated 80 ambitious high school students at East Peoria High School and Pekin Community High School for completing the South Side Bank Financial Scholars Program. In an initiative to bring financial literacy education to local students, South Side Bank provided East Peoria and Pekin High Schools with access to the EverFi—Financial Literacy™ learning course this year. In its second year sponsoring the program, South Side Bank was pleased to see students actively dedicate more than 330 hours to studying the complexities of personal finance.
The EverFi—Financial Literacy™ learning course offers programming aimed at a variety of relevant financial topics including credit scores, insurance, student loans, taxes, stocks, and 401k’s. Mapped to state and national financial literacy standards, the course uses the latest in new media technology – video, animations, 3-D gaming, and social networking – to reach today’s digital generation in their preferred environment. EverFi uniquely tracks the progress and scores of every student and provides students who successfully complete the course with Certification in Financial Literacy, a valuable mark of distinction on college applications and resumes.
The celebration event for Pekin’s South Side Bank Financial Scholars took place on May 14, 2015, during their regularly scheduled class time. The celebration event for East Peoria’s South Side Bank Financial Scholars took place on May 20, 2015 during their regularly scheduled class time. Students and teachers at both schools found the program to be informative for high school students. They felt it taught valuable life lessons that will help as they prepare for college and beyond. South Side Bank is proud to support the South Side Bank Financial Scholars Program in an effort to help local students become more informed, financially responsible citizens.
