Veterans Drive Ground Breaking
The City of Pekin held a ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction for the
southern section of Veteran's Drive. The 2-year project is funded by the State of Illinois. When completed, this section of Veterans Drive will become Route 9.
Mr. William R. Frey, Illinois Department of Transportation's Deputy Director, Assistant Chief Engineer, Division of Highways spoke at the ceremony, as did Pekin Mayor Laurie Barra, State Senator Dave Koehler, State Representative Mike Unes, and Rich Kriegsman, the chairman of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee.
Also participating in the groundbreaking ceremony were Nate Hurn (representing Congressman Aaron Schock), Andy Cogan (representing Congresswoman Cheri Bustos), Tony Rolando (Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity) and Pekin City Councilmen Tim Golden and Cody Hendricks.
