  GOAL: Increase the number of women in leadership roles in the Pekin community by 2015.

 The Women’s Network will provide education and support for young female leaders in Pekin.

Project Description:
  •  Develop an advisory board of 6-8 local women that will be engaged in the development of the Women’s Network.
  • This group will develop an application process and publicize the Women’s Network through local media sources and on social media.
  • Candidates will be selected during the Summer 2013.
  • A series of 4-6 luncheons will be held in Fall 2013 and Winter 2014. These luncheons will feature programs covering the following topics:
  •  Work Life Balance
  • Women, politics and impact on the community 
  •  The power of self promotion 
  •  Philanthropy, a female perspective 
  •  Business, corporate boards
Ongoing mentoring and networking for participants, with support for possible candidacies for boards, councils and other community leadership positions.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
