Pekin Hosts Regional Speed Networking

It was a small turnout but the participants made some great contacts at the May 20th Speed Networking event held at the Pekin Holiday Inn Express.  The chambers of commerce in Tazewell County (East Peoria, Morton, Pekin and Washington) take turns hosting the quarterly networking event.  Participants sit across a table from each other and have 90 seconds to talk about themselves.  Then they listen to their partner's 90 second introduction.  Then everyone gets up and moves to a new seat and the introductions start over.  It is a great opportunity to meet a large number of people in a short amount of time.  The Washington Chamber of Commerce will host the next speed networking event in August.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
