Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Good Shepherd Lutheran School will hod its annual Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, November 13 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 711 Court Street from 5:00 - 7:00. Delicious spaghetti with or without meatballs, breadsticks, salad, dessert, and drink all for a free will donation at the door. Stay to watch and listen to the talent show that follows at 7:00.
Methodist Medical Center is accepting camp registrations for children age 5 to 18 who are working through issues of grief following the death of a loved one. Camp Courageous is a free one-day outing for 65 young people. The Methodist Hospice Program first established the camp in 2000 with a goal of providing a safe arena for kids to share their grief with others and to learn healthy ways of coping with their loss. This year’s camp will be held at Camp Manitoumi in rural Lowpoint on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Buses will leave the Methodist Atrium Building (900 Main Street) at 8:00 a.m. and return by 5:00 p.m. The camp agenda will include games, face-painting, crafts, sports, and horseback riding.
