Pekin Park Distrtict Hosting "Sleeping On Ice" Event

PEKIN PARK DISTRICT TO HOST KID’S OVERNIGHT NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY AT THE MEMORIAL ICE ARENA

While parents are attending their adult parties, children who stay overnight at the Arena will get to enjoy their own New Year’s Eve Party. Children ages 6 – 14 years will be supervised by trained, fun loving Camp Counselors and will participate in age appropriate activities. These may include ice-skating, Wally ball, pickle ball, scavenger hunts, movies, dancing, mad science experiments, art projects, card games, karaoke, photo booth, trivia games, and hanging out with friends.  We will ring in the New Year with a balloon drop, snack bag and warm cocoa toast! Some of the balloons will have notes that can be exchanged for prizes. We will plan to sleep from 1:00 a.m. – 6:30 a.m. (so expect them to be as tired as you are on New Year’s Day).  For the slumber party, bring (or wear) your pajamas, sleeping bags and pillow.  The price includes all activities and food.  $70 all night – 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. or $40 for 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.   There is  a $3 non-resident fee and 2nd and 3rd child discounts. Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
