Institute of Women's Leadership Wraps Up

The Institute of Women's Leadership recently completed their six-week fall session.  The Institute is a partnership between the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce and Char Richardson of Richardson Counseling and Wellness Center.

The Institute was designed for committed, engaged career women ready to approach key challenges with a new perspective. The program provided a unique forum for women to realize their full potential and attain their highest levels of effectiveness and productivity in both their personal and professional lives.

Participants worked toward goals and created and maintained change through a supportive community of accountability.  Topics included...

  • Lesson plan for change 
  • Growing in emotional intelligence 
  • Diffusing anger in others / effective conflict resolution 
  • Life balance and energy 
  • Eliminating obstacles / goal setting
Participants had favorable comments about the program.
Great program that helped me develop both personally and professionally.
This was a safe place to dialogue and discuss vulnerable topics.  I appreciated learning from Char and other professional women.
Char had great materials, was engaging and thoughtful.  The women in the group were very professional and it was great to share our experiences.
The Institute program has been a great experience for me.  It was a safe space to express my feelings, grow as a person, and make connections with other women.
The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce and Richardson Counseling and Wellness Center hope to schedule another Institute of Women's Leadership in the spring.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Only high schools are eligible, but others can participate including teachers, family and school supporters. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
