VFW Road Closed Starting March 28

The construction of Veterans/VFW Drive will resume on Monday March 28th. In order to complete the new construction of five lanes, VFW Road will be closed to through traffic from Towerline Road to 14th Street. Property owners located in this section will have access to either Towerline or 14th Street depending on constructions staging.

It is anticipated that it will take several months before Veterans Drive will be reopened to through traffic as this is the final stage of construction. Once construction is complete the entire roadway will be opened for traffic.

Veterans Drive from Commercial to Towerline and from 14th Street to 5th Street will remain open to traffic. Veterans Drive from 5th Street to IL 29 will remain closed pending installation of the grade crossing with the railroad.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
