PCHS Future Focus Day of 2023

Hello Friends of PCHS,

As this year is drawing to a close, we are busy preparing for our first Future Focus Day of 2023 and we need your help.

Let me give you some information about the next Future Focus Day and then you can decide if you’re interested. Our next Future Focus Day will be held on January 18, 2023, from 7:50 am to 9:40 am (our students’ first two periods of the day). This is the one where we focus on mainly Career Exploration and that’s where you come in. We are looking for volunteers to either come into PCHS or visit virtually with our students about individual careers. Our students want to know how you got your job, what kind of training you had to do, whether or not you went to college, and what you do on a daily basis. They want to know what you like and dislike and what you would do differently if you could.

If I’ve talked to you previously, you know that my mission is to expose PCHS students to as many opportunities as possible during the short time that they are here. I want them to be able to make informed decisions about their future when the time comes. Many education programs rely on digital platforms to help students to become college and career ready. We have that program too, but I find that talking to living people far surpasses what the computer will tell them.

If you think that this sounds like something you would like to help us out with, please use the following link to sign up and I will contact you for more information. As I stated above, if distance or travel is an issue, we would still like to have you talk to the students through Google Meets or similar platform. Last year, we had people from Florida, California, and Kansas in addition to our local speakers.

If talking to students about your job is not your thing, we have a few other options for our local businesses. We are securing job shadowing opportunities for our students to be able to leave campus that morning and spend that time at your place of business, seeing what goes on there. Students will have the opportunity to secure their own placement, but we want to provide as many as possible to cut down on red tape. On that same note, if you think that you might be able to provide a tour of your business to 10 or more students, we will set that up as well. If either of those seem like a possibility, please use the following link to let us know.
