Christmas on Court Celebrates Another Year of Holiday Spirit

Pekin, IL- A quintessential Christmas experience returned to Downtown Pekin this past Friday, December 2nd. 

Santa made an appearance along with Abraham Lincoln and the Grinch (maybe in more than one place). Businesses in the downtown area were open for shopping as well as pop-up market vendors for a diverse holiday shopping experience. 

 Christmas on Court is hosted by the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the City of Pekin Tourism Committee, Discover Pekin, and Discover Peoria. This family event emphasizes supporting a “shop small” initiative with the Pekin community. 

#ShopLocal365 is a regional partnership encouraging community members to shop local at the holidays and year-round. With each community in the Greater Peoria region offering unique specialty retailers, the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents and guests from the region to use Christmas on Court as an opportunity to visit and shop Pekin.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
