Pekin's First Community Not-For-Profit Summit is Hosted by Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce

Affiliates of Pekin area not-for-profit organizations gather for summit at Pekin Public Library 


Pekin, IL- The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce presented a special leadership conference focused on the future of Pekin’s advocacy and community-based organizations on Thursday, November 17th. More than ten organizations were in attendance, representing an array of needs in the community.

Event presenters focused on messages which highlighted the spirit of collaboration, and explored how greater education surrounding not-for-profits can positively impact governance of community organizations.

Presenter Bill Fleming remarks associations aimed at improving quality of life are part of our American heritage; and, there is a collective, critical responsibility to help not-for-profits live out their missions.

"We need leaders willing to step up and take leadership roles in our community," states Fleming.

Executive Director of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce presented information about the 25th Annual R. David Tebben Community Leadership Academy- a program which aims to identify, inform and educate existing and emerging leaders. The experience motivates participants toward leadership responsibilities by exposing the realities, opportunities and challenges of the local community.

Attendees were also given opportunity to voice the unique concerns of their organizations in an open discussion, which allowed many to gain new resources. Talent and volunteer recruitment, employee engagement and methods of raising mission awareness were among key issues addressed.
