Pekin Police Department Holds Annual "Guns N Hoses"

The Pekin Police Department is proud to support the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. They are asking for your support for their annual "Guns N Hoses" basketball game where the Pekin Police Department plays the Pekin Fire Department. This game will take place on March 30th 2012 at the Pekin Community High School at 6:00 P.M. The purpose of this game is to raise money for the Special Olympics Illinois. 100% of the profits go towards Special Olympics Illinois.

The Pekin Police Department is asking for your support for donated items from local businesses. They will turn these items into raffle baskets that will be raffled off at the end of the basketball game. If your business would like to make your own raffle basket, they would be glad to take that donation as well. Monetary donations are also accepted and they are tax deductible. People will have the opportunity to buy a chance for the raffle baskets during the game with the winners being picked at the end of the day.

This event was very successful the last two years because of the generous support from local businesses like yours. If you are willing to help with this noble cause or have any questions, please contact Sgt. Rick Von Rohr of Officer Jeff Stolz at 478-5330. They are requesting donations be turned in by March 19th, 2012.

Goodwill of Central Illinois will hold the 5th Annual Recycle Your Style Contest. High school students within Goodwill’s territory are encouraged to donate their used clothing. The high school that donates the most pounds of clothing will win a SMART Board donated by Bradfield’s Computer Supply. The contest runs from October 1st through October 31st. “This has been a very successful campaign for us,” said Bob Parkhurst, Goodwill Vice President. “We are grateful for Bradfield’s Computer Supply’s donation of a SMART Board each year. That prize really heats up the competition among the high schools.” Donations of items other than clothing are encouraged, but only clothing will count toward the contest. Methodist Offers Free Informational Heart Program

January 29, 2010 Methodist Medical Center is hosting a free “Coffee with the Doctor” on Saturday February 27, 2010 in observance of National Heart Month. Tahir Ilahi, M.D. of the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology will be making a presentation on “Cholesterol and Your Heart”. Registered Dietician Hannah Lee will also be on hand to demonstrate heart healthy meal preparation. “Coffee with the Doctor” will be held from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Methodist Medical Group Cardiology Conference Room at 112 NE.
