Spruce Up Pekin
Spruce Up Pekin will set up dumpsters at four city locations to collect residents' garbage.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th, people can drop off their trash at four locations- the Mineral Springs Park parking lot, Fire Station No. 2 at 14th and Willow streets, 1130 Koch St., and the intersection of Knapp and Sapp streets.
No yard waste, paint, microwaves, propane tanks or aerosol cans will be accepted.
Williams said that, as always, more volunteers are needed for the day of the event. He can be contacted at 346-4432.
Tires will be accepted at the 1130 Koch St. location only.
The fee to drop off passenger tires is $2; the fee for implement tires from vehicles such as riding lawn mowers is $3; and the fee for semi-truck tires is $9.
Metal will be accepted at the Mineral Springs Park location.
Environmental Oil Company, out of Peoria, will also be there to collect used oil. Interstate Batteries will also be at the park location.
"Another thing people have been asking me is, how do I dispose of my paint?" he said.
Spruce Up Pekin does not accept paint, but there is a home remedy.
Williams said he puts cat litter into the paint can, which then absorbs and dissipates it. Then it can be thrown away.
